School of Government Students Motivational Session


On the morning of Thursday, October 12th, the School of Government held an introduction for the class of Class 2021-2023 of Master and PhD students regarding their graduation thesis. The meeting was chaired by Xu Bingbing, the coordinator for international students.

On behalf of international students, three monitors form PhD programme, shared  the standards for the thesis, including topic selection, relevance to current events, and constructive aspects. The presentation covered various stages, such as proposal presentations, proposal defenses, plagiarism checks, and final thesis defenses. It also included advice on citing sources and preparation techniques and skills, such as time management, professor evaluation criteria, slides and manuscript skills. In addition to the thesis-related information, the monitors also introduced the relevant websites. They provided clear guidance on where students could update their personal information, submit thesis, and how to use the campus library website to search for literature.


As the liaison person, Miss Xu added and emphasized the importance of the thesis in the whole academic process and stressed particularly the importance of the submission deadlines for each stage of the thesis process to help plan and allocate thesis work well in advance. She then explained the students’ questions about essay plans, grades and other issues related to their academic outlines.

With these insights shared by the monitors, it not only makes the workflow for the freshman more manageable and provides a better understanding of academic arrangements, also eases the anxiety of being overwhelmed by the pressure of schoolwork.
